I Will Carry You...

I was awakened on a Saturday morning by my husband leaning over me with a paper in his hand saying, “I really want you to read this”.  Now let me tell you, I am NOT a morning person, so reading something while me eyes are still glued shut was the last thing I wanted to do.  Then when he told me that he had written down some lyrics to a song, I was even less thrilled that I had to get my brain in gear to critique song lyrics!  Anyway, he began to explain to me how he had dreamt the lyrics to a verse and a chorus.  He had even dreamt the music.  He couldn't remember some of the music, but one thing that he definitely remembered was that there was an oboe in the orchestration.  Sometimes our brains recall some of the strangest things, don't they?  Anyway, as soon as I started reading, I sat up in bed and said, “This is really good!”  So, believe it or not, I shuffled my way to the piano and started playing.  I ended up keeping most of the lyrics on the verse intact and revised some of the lyrics on the chorus, but the entire feel and mood of the song is just how Tom dreamt it.  I would probably have to say that when I sing this song, I get more response from people than any other song I sing.  I've had people tell me that the lyrics have helped them during chemotherapy.  A mother who lost a 16 year old son, a grandmother who lost an 11 year old granddaughter, a lady who is in a wheelchair with MS, and many others have testified to the ministry of this song. It's been used at funerals and by church choirs.  It's not about how great the song is, and certainly it's not about the writers, but somehow God placed a seed in my husband's heart in the middle of the night that He wanted us to nurture, and then God gave the increase, and lives have been touched.  This is one of those occasions when I'm glad I live with a morning person!
